This week our teacher taught us about Maori people's tattoo (Ta Moka). I think that I can intruduced the name of Chinese tattoo and Taiwan's oboriginal tattoo culture.
This week our teacher taught us about Maori people's tattoos (Ta Moka). I think that I can write about the name of Chinese tattoos and Taiwan's aboriginal tattoo culture.
In Chinese, if your tottoo is on your face that we call "qing main" (黥面). Beside the face, if tattoo is on your body we call "ci qing" (刺青). If it is carved or drawed on utensils and pillars etc..., we call "tu teng" (圖騰) it's as totem. So, totem and tattoo is different. I am so sorry that I gave my teacher wrong hintes on tattoo's pronunciation. The correct pronunciation "ci qing", it usually means tattoos.

Some of Taiwan's aborigines (Taiwan's aborigines 台灣原住民 It's a link ) also have tattoo culture. They are Atayal people (Atayal people 泰雅族 It's a link ). Truku people (Truku people 太魯閣族 It's a link). Saisiyat people (Saisiyat people 賽夏族 It's a link) and Paiwan people (Paiwan people 排灣族 It's a link). As mentioned before, they are that I know of which they have tattoo culture, maybe others of Taiwan's aborigines also have this that it just I just don't know. Some of them just tattooed on thier face, and one of them beside face also on their body. One of them just tattooed on thier body.

The third is represent family. The forth is represent achievement. The tattoos for man means that you are an adult and also means courageous and skillful in combat. For women is it means you are skillful in weave cloth. So, Atayal's women are famous for thier weaved pretty colth.

Women only have one row of tattoo on thier forehead tattooed. And man also can had tattoo on thier body but he must ever hunted two persons' heads after that he was going to can had one of row of tattoo on the skin of the left side of the chest rib and with three persons' heads, one can got one row of tattoo on the right side of the chest rib tattooed. If addtional heads were obtained, will be the added tattoos were going to on the skin of your right or left ribs. Now, they don't kill people anymore.
The Saisiyat tattoo are on their faces. When a man becomes an adult he will have one row of tattoos on his chin and forehead. Women only have one row of tattoos on their forehead. And in the past a man also had tattoos on his body but he must have hunted two people's heads. After that he can have one row of tattoos on the skin of the left side of chest and with three people's heads, one could get one row of tattoos on the right side of the chest. If addtional heads were abtained, the added tattoos were put on the skin of your right or left ribs. Now, they don't kill people anymore.
The Paiwan tattoos are on their body. If you are a nobel person or have special achievements, the lord will give you tattoos. Man have their chest and back tattooed and women have their back of the hand tattooed.
